Blessing of the Animals

Momma left me last weekend to go to the Big City, so I didn't get to put this up last Sunday. There are some Blessing of the Animals celebrations today, too, so it is still appropriate.
October 4 was the special day for St. Francis of Assisi. Some churches now celebrate Mr. St. Francis by having Blessing of the Animals ceremonies, which is real nice, I think. We could all use a blessing now and then, don't ya think?

St. Francis was an old hippie who lived in Italy a squillion years ago. His first name wasn't really St. He got called that after he died. He loved all living things and reminded Beans that they should be kind to animals because we should honor all creation with love and peace. He sounds like a nice guy, even though he had funny hair. Here is a picture of a pretty St. Francis window that shows him with his animal friends.

Congratulations, Jimmy Joe. All the fluffheads got counted and you one of the winners who came in closest to the number of bears in the group.
There were 29 bears and you guessed 30. Wow, thank you for playing in my very first contest.

I have a prize for you but will need your snail mail address to do that. Please email it to gretchencat(at)verizon(dot)net.

Hugs...G

What a lovely post. They do Blessing of the Animals here, too. It's very sweet - even if they bless animals other than cats!

Very sweet, JJ.
We have a St. Francis tile in our kitchen. And there is the COOLEST St. F. print on etsy Mosaic Lady has on her wish list. We are big fans around this house, too.
Your Country Boy ZooArt is so adorable.

Hey, Jimmy Joe, this was a terrific post about St. Francis. Lots of churches near us do animal blessings too but we don't like to go outside of our house. We have a St. Francis statue in the back yard right by the corner of our screened-in porch. He must like squirrels, bunnies and chipmunks because we have lots of them to watch!!

St. Francis was a wonderful person. The Blessing of the Animals ceremonies sound wonderful. Our Catholic Church doesn't do that, though.

Hi Jimmy Joe! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Nice to have a friend whose mom is also writing one of those esoteric things called dissertation or thesis. I help too, but more often than not I fall asleep on SS's books, research papers or computer.

Do drop by again and you can check out my doggie sister. She is really cute.

Nudges and purrs,
MoMo
